Bay Equity Charity Golf Tourney: Mom’s Legacy

Founders' Mom JoAnn died of pancreatic cancer

Throughout childhood and continuing into their professional careers, Bay Equity founders Brett, Casey and Jon McGovern have always remembered the lessons they learned from their mother, JoAnn.

Once again, the Brothers McGovern, along with dad Tom, invite you to honor her memory at the 4th Annual JoAnn McGovern Memorial Golf Tournament, Friday, Oct. 4 at the Silverado Resort in Napa, CA.

In 2011, “Joey,” as everyone called her, lost her battle with pancreatic cancer. She was just 65.

Joey and Tom raised boys with a strong work ethic to guide them on pathways to success.

But they learned to play hard, too. Joey’s infectious smile, warm personality and zest for life left a legacy that continues to influence Bay Equity’s Core Values today, says company CEO Brett McGovern.

“Joey’s joy in helping others stayed with us. She inspired our focus on customer service, our commitment to a family culture and our pledge to give back to the community.”

Proceeds from the memorial golf tournament benefit the McGovern Family Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Foundation and its mission to advance research, support patients and create hope for all affected.

“My brothers, father and I feel a great way to remember mom is to help provide hope for those affected by this tragic disease,” said President Casey McGovern. “This tournament is not only in memory of Joey, but in memory of all who have died from cancer.”

More than 145 Americans are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer every day - nearly 55,000 per year. The 5-year survival rate is less than 10 percent.
